Day 4
We are staying 2 nights in the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace which is a fabulous old hotel looking out over Lake Geneva with huge mountains in the background. Not much snow left, only in the hollows on the higher peaks. Once again, the room is luxurious and the breakfast amazing. Jenni did her exercises in the gym after breakfast – this place has 2 swimming pools (indoor and outdoor, a spa, sauna and fully equipped gym. I don’t think there would be any change left out of $1000 per night.
Dinner last night was included, held in a private room so we got to know our travel companions a little better. They are a fun group and it is likely that we will continue to mingle when we join the other groups on the boat tomorrow night. This morning we headed to Vevey and a visit to Chaplin’s world followed by a lunch break and a drive along the lake. Chaplin’s home, now a museum, is a testament to his entire life, shown in film, photos, artefacts, life size mannequins and script. Many of the rooms are laid out in their original form with original furniture.

Vevey is the headquarters of Nestle but we did not visit. Across the water is Evian and the French border.
This tour of Switzerland is very different from the hectic tours normally experienced where you have to be up early each day to fit in the day’s schedule. This morning, we left the hotel ay 9:45 and were back by 2pm.
Tomorrow morning we check out at 10:30 and take the train from behind our hotel to Chateau-d’OEx where we will see traditional cheesemaking and experience a fondue lunch before returning to the hotel for our bus to Basel, although we have been informed that we will be by-passing Basel and meeting the ship at Breisach. Something to do with the locks at Basel, preventing the ship from reaching that port.
After Jenni had had a good rest this afternoon, we strolled down the road and chose an Italian restaurant for dinner. We shared a bruschetta and a calzone. When we saw the size of the calzone we wished we hadn’t ordered the bruschetta. Wow what a feast!
